More About Me
I bring a broad range of experiences to my practice. For example, I have worked as a therapist and instructor at a child guidance clinic, I was a clinician at a rape treatment program, providing crisis intervention and community training, and I worked at a Family Service Agency conducting individual and group therapy, family counseling, and supervision. Furthermore, I have a PsyD Doctorate in Psychoanalysis from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Los Angeles, CA, Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, couple’s therapy, and family counseling can provide answers. I know that because I’ve been in practice for over 40 years. I’ve worked with children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families throughout the life cycle. I know what it’s like to experience loss, grief, and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. Now, especially, we live with fears and uncertainty.
How I work
I’m an active participant in our work together. I listen carefully, try to understand you and your feelings and needs. I believe that emotions play an essential role in shaping who we are. Often there are unconscious patterns that prevent us from being our true selves. You might be stuck in cycles of anger, resentment, or unremitting sadness. You might be replicating ways in which you were brought up, unable to change your way of dealing with situations. You might not be comfortable with your feelings. You might feel alone in making decisions and need guidance. Therapy provides an opportunity for self-discovery and change. I’m committed to helping you achieve your goal! I will put all of my energy and expertise into providing you with what you need.

I didn’t plan on becoming a therapist early in my life. I loved to travel and learn about other cultures. I studied and became fluent in 3 languages, besides English, after living in different countries. Gradually, I came to think about how each culture felt and how these feelings affected my understanding of the people and myself. I loved learning to communicate with words, body language, and tone of voice. I picked up the nuances in communication. Without realizing it, these experiences created my path toward becoming a therapist. I worked as a teacher and counselor in a Mexican school, and I worked in a health care clinic in a rural community while in Mexico. On my return to the U.S., I found employment with the California Dept of Public Social Services, then with the State Dept. of Rehabilitation, helping people with disabilities to find jobs. Subsequently, I did an internship and later became a therapist at St. John’s Child and Family Guidance Clinic in Santa Monica. After that, working at the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica Hospital broadened my clinical expertise. Other settings included a Family Service Agency, consulting for a school for children with special needs, and now, here I am! I’ve gained knowledge through a Master’s Degree Program, a Doctoral Program, and ongoing clinical education. I’ve learned from having my own family and being a working mother. I’ve learned from life, and I’ve learned from the people I’ve treated. I’ve learned that life is complex, difficult, joyous, frightening, and exciting, with many emotions in between. Life’s a journey! Let’s take it together.
